On my bedroom wall hangs a small watercolor painting of a rooster that greets me each morning. I am almost as fond of roosters as I am of the pineapple. No doubt because its cockle-doodle-doo symbolizes the dawning of a new day.
Some days that means a fresh start, a do-over, relief that what felt big yesterday feels smaller, more manageable. Usually, the rooster reminds me of sunshine, replenished energy, and the opportunity to make more of myself today than I was yesterday.

O, with what freshness,
what solemnity and beauty,
is each new day born;
as if to say to insensate man,
‘Behold! thou hast one more chance!
Strive for immortal glory!'
Harriet Beecher Stowe, Author of Uncle Tom's Cabin
